Bracing

TLSO is a term your doctor may use when prescribing a brace for scoliosis treatment. This stands for thoraco-lumbar-sacral-orthotic. There are lots of these available to us as consumers. Most commonly heard of is the Boston, Charlestown bending, and Milwaukee Braces. Let me challenge you to seek information and research regarding bracing.
Little known to most U.S. physcicans is the Rigo-Cheneau Brace. According to a case report published in July of 2006 in Scoliosis Journal, "Treatment of scoliosis with the Cheneau brace is currently the most practiced conservative method in Germany, Austria, Spain, Greece, as well as in Poland. It is also used in France and Italy."
Generally, as you sift through hours of published reports, you will find that our traditionally used braces here in the U.S. may help arrest progression of curves, but there is little hope of reduction of the abnormal curves, they don't address all 3 planes involved, and they are uncomfortable and restrictive at best. Again, using the research available, educate yourselves on your best bracing options.
